Fun Same Sex Barn Wedding - Channels Estate, Essex - Kelsey & Emma
When Kelsey and Emma first got in touch with me about their wedding in Chelmsford, I was so excited – having recently relocated to Australia where Emma is from, they were planning a relaxed barn wedding with an outdoor ceremony, and it was to be my first same sex wedding! Kelsey and Emma are the most fun people and I couldn’t wait to shoot their wedding!
Bridal prep
I began the morning at the Hazel Suite next to venue, where the brides were getting ready together, and it was really chilled. Kelsey wore a floor length number and Emma wore a calf length dress that showed off her ace green suede shoes and they looked so gorgeous. The girls didn't have a bridal party so it was very calm and relaxed atmosphere in the room they were getting ready in, alongside Lucie my second shooter for the day and Gail, who is an exceptional hair & make up artist, there were lots of giggles shared between us all. I even had Kelsey standing on a bench hanging their dresses from a lamppost because I was too short!
The afternoon
It was a beautifully sunny day, which was perfect. While the guests enjoyed canapes and pimms, we wandered around the venue doing fun and creative portraits. There's even a pretty hilarious photo of me tying Emmas shoe, and I'm pretty sure I also told her not to fart on my head!
For the wedding breakfast they had proper wedding grub, and it was absolutely delicious, I have to point out that I could not fault Channels for their wonderful care, especially as suppliers I often find we're given cold food right at the end and have to shove it down before speeches, but here we were brought a starter and main as the guests were served too which makes for super happy photographers!
After dinner they had some wonderful speeches, then we headed outside for the final 'speech' and were all surprised when it turned out to be a pinata! They also had Fox and Braces Dj in the evening, which was a huge hit. I always, always recommend Fox & Braces to all my couples now as they are without doubt the best Djs in Essex, if not in the country in my opinion! They are super chilled guys, who don't do any of that cheesy stuff and have super cool looking booth set ups.
One of my favourite parts about summer weddings is the sun setting later so after a few songs we headed back outside to enjoy the magical golden hour and take a few more photos!
