Captains Wood Barn Essex Wedding - Lizzie & Charlie
IF YOU’RE PLANNING A WEDDING AT CAPTAINS WOOD BARN IN ESSEX, YOU’LL FIND TONS OF INSPO FROM THIS WEDDING!
Lizzie and Charlie got married at Captains Wood Barn, which is a quirky barn in Essex with a beautiful woodland ceremony area. It was such a fun day and even the rain didn’t dampen the day!
The vows
The ceremony was a humanist service in a woodland clearing. Michelle is a celebrant I’ve worked with many times and created such a beautiful and personal service for Lizzie & Charlie. During the ceremony they had a beautiful reading and both lit lanterns in memory of Charlies brother and best friend. It was emotional and moving but incredibly beautiful. Once they had said their vows they did a shot of tequila and guests joined in with a rendition of Madness’s song “It must be Love” before walking back down the aisle together and being attacked with confetti!
They decorated the area with sunflowers and tributes to friends & family sadly no longer with us, which was a really personal touch and a special way to celebrate those loved ones. The reception was in the barn at Captains Wood – I love this venue because you can have the place for the whole weekend and it’s the perfect dry hire venue. Weddings at Captains Wood Barn are amazing, because the space is so unique, you can have a woodland ceremony or if weather hinders the covered area adjoining the barn gives you plenty of space to do the ceremony. - We got lucky as the rain was on/off all day but we were suitably sheltered beneath the trees that it stopped for the ceremony and couple photos after!
Why Captains Wood Barn is a great place to get married
Captains Wood Barn has a really laid-back vibe, and is one of the coolest places to get married in Essex. The venue offers an amazing atmosphere for a wedding – and there so many incredible backdrops that are perfect for photos.
After the ceremony
The couple had drinks and canapes in the afternoon, and an ice cream van in the evening which was a huge hit with kids & adults! For dinner they had bbq & burgers which really suits the relaxed vibe of the barn. The first dance was really beautiful and emotional with lots of tears and hugs shared after. As I left the drinks were flowing and guests were dancing!
The couple
Lizzie wore a boho dress and Charlie wore a three-piece suit and they both looked really dapper! I loved Lizzies dress from Lucy Can't Dance, it was a really beautiful and had such an awesome non-traditional lace that she paired with some customised Converse and frilly socks! SUCH a vibe! Totally the footwear I'd opt for too!
Advice for planning your wedding at Captains Wood Barn
Use the space to really show who you are as a couple! It is such a perfect quirky setting that allows you to take the venue in any direction that suits you! It has plenty of beautiful areas tucked away and from what I've seen on Instagram during lockdown they have created even more beautiful areas and added a bride across the pond! It really is such a special venue and I can't wait to get back there!
