When Maddy and Ally first got in touch with me about their Browning Bros wedding in Colchester, I was so excited – they were planning the most relaxed outdoor wedding with a woodland ceremony, a live band and even a s'mores table. Maddy and Ally are the loveliest people and I couldn’t wait to shoot their wedding!

The excitement before the wedding

I began the morning at the bridal cottage, where the girls were getting ready together, and it was so chilled out, because everyone was in a good mood. Maddy wore a gorgeous Grace Loves Lace dress and Ally wore a kilt in his families tartan and they looked so good. Ally arrived at the venue in a VW camper van with his best men, whilst Maddy walked through the beautiful woodland path to the ceremony.

The serious part

The wedding took place in the woodland, and was a intimate woodland ceremony. They had a handfasting, which was just magical. Their daughter Niamh and teddy got involved with the hand fasting and it was mega cute. The ceremony was taken my Michelle aka The Funky Celebrant. She planned an awesome script with the couple including an adaptation of the Scottish tradition ‘First Footing"‘, If you want to read more about their actual ceremony and script head over to Michelles blog to read all about it. After the ceremony they were showered with confetti, and then everyone headed to the bar.

The afternoon

The wedding reception took place mostly outside at Tey Brook Orchard, which is a really beautiful outside space. It has a marquee, a cabin with pizza oven and the perfect place to set up a bar as well as a stretched tent for guests to sit in the shade and the children to make use of all the toys they had. It was wonderful.

During the reception they a homemade cocktail bar, which made the reception really chilled. Whilst guests relaxed we wandered back into the woodland area for photos of the couple and their family. I loved the photos I took of them both with Niamh, although you'd never tell, we had to balance a phone playing Peppa Pig on my camera lens. For dinner a fancy burger van, and it was loved by all the guests. After the meal we took advantage of the light to take some more photos as Maddy had changed into her second dress, then the band kicked off the party and they went straight into the first dance. They also had a s'mores bar that Maddy had put together, which was a huge hit.
