How to Make Your Wedding Photos Personal: Tips for Letting Your Unique Style Shine
How to Incorporate Your Personality into Your Wedding Photos
Wondering how to make your wedding photos unique, personal, and actually feeling like you? As a colourful, fun-focused wedding photographer, helping couples capturing their day in ways that go beyond the traditional wedding photo poses is what I do. So Iām spilling the info on how you can work with your photographer to get those poses, photos, and vibes juuust right.
Whether youāre planning on a laid-back wedding photo session, or want the full-on, planned wedding portraitsā¦ This guide will show you how to get your personalities, love and story as the main character.
Ditch the Cookie-Cutter Poses
Wedding photos and portraits should ALWAYS feel completely āyouā. It is your day, after all.
Getting wedding and couple pose ideas off Pinterest and wedding blogs is a great idea, but donāt feel like you have to force you and your love into poses that just donāt feel right. Getting inspo online can especially help you work out what you donāt want from your wedding photos.
We've all seen those perfectly posed wedding photos where everyone looks like they just stepped out of a glossy magazine. And if that's your jam, amazing! But if you're the kind of couple who'd rather be having a lightsaber battle in your formal wear, then 100% do you. Just work out what you do and donāt want before the big day.
Remember: There's no "right way" to be in love or to show it. Maybe you express your affection through a secret handshake, or a well-timed tap on the bum. These are the golden moments we want to capture - you being you.
Use What You Love
Got a shared obsession with a movie? Sneak some subtle (or not so subtle) references into your shots. Pet parents? Your pets absolutely deserve their moment in the spotlight!
Your personalities shine through in the smallest details. Maybe it's the superhero socks hiding under your dress shoes, a bookish charm hanging from your bouquet, or the custom vows written in a Harry Potter journal. These tiny touches aren't just cute photo opsā¦ They're the personal stamps that make your wedding and photos uniquely yours.
Venue Vibes
If youāre reading this blog for advice, you mightāve already chosen your wedding venue. Let your venue (and wedding photographer) set your vibe and spark ideasā¦
Rustic barn? Chase that golden hour light over the land.
Ancient castle? Play with all the secret corners and gorgeous brickwork.
Urban bar? Hit the city streets and find some badass graffiti.
Whatever your vibe, your venue is the moodboard base.
This leads me toā¦.
Trust Your Gut (And Your Photographer!)
Here's the thing: when you feel comfortable and relaxed, it always shows in your photos. So if striking a traditional pose feels about as natural as eating soup with a fork, let's try something else! Some of my favorite shots have come from just letting couples be themselves, have fun, crack a beer and some jokes, and just capturing those authentic moments.
When you trust your photographer, and your photographer understands your wants and needs, magic happens.
My goal for your wedding photos is to make your best friend say "That is SO them!" when they're flicking through your album.
Just Rememberā¦ Itās YOUR Day
When you look back at your wedding photos, youāll remember all the things that made your day so totally āyoursā as a couple.
Remember, these photos aren't just for your Instagram feed (though they'll definitely rock there too)... They're the memories you'll share with your friends and family, and look back on during your 50th anniversary. Let's make sure they show the real you ā the silly, relaxed, and totally in love couple that you are.
